The mood inside Sydney’s Villawood Detention Centre worsened over the weekend with at least one man attempting suicide and three others remaining on suicide watch. The detainees are upset because a large group of Villawood detainees were released last week, after a short stay at the centre. The group of mainly Korean and Chinese people were released without explanation causing frustration amongst long term asylum seekers. Ngareta Rossell, who has been visiting Villawood for thelast four years was shocked when she arrived on Friday. Ngareta told Michael Atkin about the scene she encountered.
