A new Koori Court will soon be established in Mildura in Victoria’s north-west. Justice groups in the area hope the initiative will bring better outcomes for Indigenous people in the justice system and also the wider community. The decision to establish a Koori Court in Mildura is significant, given that it will service some 4,000 Aboriginal people living in the area. Koori Courts aim to reduce perceptions of cultural alienation through tailoring the court process to fit the needs of Indigenous people.
