The Anti-Democratic process of Rendition
As the US preaches democracy to the Middle East it continues a practice that enables it to deal with certain prisoners in a very un-democratic manner. It’s called rendition and it means sending certain diffciult prisoners to countries where they can be interrogated more savagely. Since they cannot then be returned to the US justice system as their torture experiences would come out in evidence they usually end up just being sent home without charge or to a neutral territory like Guantanamo Bay. Dr Felix Patrikeef from Adelaide University says Mamdouh Habib’s experience was a case of rendition and the practice allows the US to circumvent the Geneva Convention.
