The escalating tensions over Syrian involvement in Lebanon reached breaking point this week, with the resignation of the Lebanese government. There has also been increasing pressure from the international community calling for Syria to remove its troops from the country. Adelaide University Strategic Studies lecturer Dr John Bruni says the complex relationship between Syria and Lebanon goes beyond anything that can be simply described in military of geographic terms.
