Gorleben in northern Germany has lived with the reality of nuclear waste transport for twenty years but the locals haven’t given up their opposition. More than ten thousand police are relocated there every year to deal with the road blockades set up by farmers. Gorleben residents Heike Lehmberg and Michelle Michalski are in Australia to look at the proposed routes for nuclear waste if dump plans go ahead here, and to share their experiences with Australian anti-nuclear groups. They’ve just returned from a meeting with the Kungka Tjuta women in Coober Pedy.
