The Kupu Pita Kungka Tjuta have been speaking out for six years against plans to create a nuclear waste dump 150 kilometres from Coober Pedy. They fear the radioactive materials will leach into the subterranean water supply, poisoning plants, animals and the traditional owners. I spoke to Karina Lester, the grand-daughter of Kungka Tjuta Eileen Brown – about their presentation at the ARPANSA public forum in Adelaide.
