It’s World Press Freedom Day today and New York-based Watchdog, the Committee to Protect Journalists has released its annual report on the most murderous places in the world where the press works. While it comes as no surprise that Iraq tops the list, the Phillipines came a surprising second. Thirteen journalists were killed in the course of their work last year in that country alone and this year is shaping up just as bad, if not worse. The International Federation of Journalists recently sent a fact-finding mission to the Phillipines earlier this year to find out why. Sydney Morning Herald journalist, Gerard Noonan wrote a report for the Federation after participating on the mission. He spoke to the wire’s Christine Baker.
