It’s World No Tobacco Day and here in Australia, anti-smoking groups are calling for more measures to reduce the number of people smoking. While successful campaigns have caused a reduction in the number of adults smoking in the last decades, health organisations believe more needs to be done, especially to prevent young people from taking up the habit. Furthermore, while the states have made deadlines for phasing out smoking in clubs and pubs, some health experts are worried that fuzzy definitions of ‘enclosed areas’ might allow smoky venues to continue past the deadlines. The Wire’s Bill Birtles reports.
