The Church of England in Britain this week voted to continue its debate about whether women should be allowed to be bishops. The apparent progress has frustrated advocates for their ordination in Australia, after the National Synod voted down legislation last October that would have removed the gender barrier. Cassandra Hill spoke to two women on both sides of the debate. She started by asking Dr Muriel Porter, a laywoman in Melbourne’s Anglican Church, whether the UK is now a step closer to having women bishops ? than Australia. Cassandra also spoke to Lesley Ramsay, a member of Sydney’s Anglican Church who represents Australian women opposed to female bishops.
