When it comes to our DNA, who owns the right to it? Is it each individual person, or, the biomedical companies who are prepared to pay for them? Last week the Wire looked at the idea of gene patenting, that is, companies placing monopolies on certain genetic material for their exclusive use. But at what cost? Many argue the monopoly on gene patenting is stifling the progress for medical research.
