…while Australia’s youth turn their back on the environment

Its often claimed that the future of the environment lies in the hands of Australia’s youth. Yet a new survey has found that Australians between the age of 14 and 24 are becoming increasingly ambivalent about the crisis facing our natural world. The report was completed by Canberra-based think tank, the Australia Institute. It found that less young Australians are likely to regard themselves as environmentalists, to be avid recyclers or to believe that urgent action needs to be taken to avert serious environmental damage. So what is causing this decline in young people taking the the environment seriously? The author of the report by the Australia Institute, Dr Richard Deniss, shared a few of his theories on the issue with The Wire.
