The gap between the well-being of indigenous and non-indigenous Australians has influenced policy development for decades. With lower levels of educational attainment and employment, and higher rates of imprisonment and disease, Indigenous Australians continue to lag behind the rest of the population. But for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, well-being stems from more than education, income, and even health. It is about spirituality and the connections to community and culture. What can governments and non-indigenous people learn from indigenous philosophies about how to ‘live well’?
