WA Report Card on Indigenous women

WA Indigenous Women now have an official Report Card, that puts down on paper the status that they personally experience every day. The Indigenous Women’s Congress have high hopes that the benchmark publication will help educate people about the realities of their lives. Pat Kopusar, Perth representative on the Indigenous Women’s Advisory Council and Congress member, says Indigenous women have always felt “lost in the translation” when new statistics are published, that don’t show the true nature of their situation. State MP representing the Kimberly region, Carol Martin says there’s nothing new in the report that Indigenous women don’t already know, although she was surprised some figures were not higher. Women’s Interest Minister Sheila McHale is promising the Report Card will be used to bring about social and economic change.
