Barry heard went to fight in the Vietnam War at the age of 18. Like so many vets , the things that he saw and did there have stayed with him all his life, and had all but destroyed his life – until he decided to write a book.

The book “Well Done Those Men” began as a letter to his family to try to explain all the things he had been unable to tell them. It went on to win awards and become a classic that helps vets and their families. Barry is very firmly anti-war. He now tours talking to school groups about his experiences.
