Urban farming has been on a tear since the 1970s. No longer just grannies growing herbs, it has evolved into a movement and industry of it’s own. But could the pollution commonly found in cities – chemicals, rubbish and heavy metals – render the whole sector unsafe? New research has found that contaminated soil in areas near industrial zones and busy roads could be harmful to the health of growers and consumers.
