This year’s Elizabeth Jolley short story prize saw more than 1400 entries.

Only Australian poets Anthony Lawrence and Josephine Rowe and British author Jonathan Tel made it to the shortlist, but each has woven technically proficient and personally engaging stories that explore themes of unresolved personal problems, longing and mystery.

The stories can be read now in the August edition of the Australian Book Review.

The final judgment will be made on August 27 at the Melbourne Writer’s Festival.
