Union campaign steps up as Government set to promote IR reforms
With the coalition set to control the Senate by week’s end, the unions are stepping up their campaign against the proposed Industrial Relations reforms by announcing a national week of action that began yesterday in Brisbane and will culminate with rallies in capital cities and a mass meeting via sky channel in clubs across NSW on Friday. This comes on top of the $8 million dollar television and radio advertising campaign launched by the unions to raise public awareness of their opposition to the reforms. However, government sources last week reported that a 20 million dollar campaign promoting the changes is in the works, putting the pressure on unions to find new ways to drum up support for their message. John Robertson is the Secretary of Unions NSW and he spoke to Bill Birtles about their campaign.
