UN Women – improving women’s lives in the Pacific?

A year ago, a new United Nation’s agency, UN Women was formed, merging the UN Development Fund for Women and the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues. Australia, along with many neighbouring countries, missed the chance to nominate a delegate, and currently Timor Leste is the only Pacific country that is represented on the executive. Sharon Bhagan-Wells is the executive director of Fem Link Pacific, a Fiji-based women’s advocacy organization. She spoke with The Wire’s Liz Cush about the progress made by UN Women since its creation one year ago.
