In the leadup to former Home Affairs minister Peter Dutton’s challenge for the prime ministership, the Home Affairs department repeatedly denied a dying 12-year-old boy on Nauru entry into Australia for medical attention unless he left his family behind.

The day Dutton resigned from the portfolio, his transfer was finally approved, but advocates are not hopeful his absence will bring change.
