US Iranian escalation has mounted under President Trump, most notably after he abruptly pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal, which had been negotiated under his predecessor Barack Obama.

While US sanctions continue to put economic pressure on Iran, critics says that American policy under the Trump government has no discernible path in relation to Iran.
