A human rights complaint filed  against the Australian Government by Torres Straight Islanders has received support at the United Nations.

UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and the Environment, Professor David Boyd has  filed a joint amicus brief — or letter of support — for the Islanders with the Human Rights Committee.

The Islanders allege that the Australian Government is  violating their human rights by failing to take adequate action on climate change, causing islanders to suffer the effects of king tides, land erosion from rising sea levels and cyclones.
