Efforts to rein in spending in the NDIS are leaving autistic children, families and service providers without an immediate alternative.

Foundational supports, which offer mainstream services outside of the NDIS, were slated to begin in July but have been delayed for further consultation.

This issue leaves thousands of families on their own until foundational supports come online at the end of the year.
