East Timor remains a dangerous place to live, not the least for the many local Timorese journalists who bravely cover the news and are not allowed the luxury of escaping on a plane to Darwin when this get too rough. And things can sometimes get pretty heated, once the foreign journalists are no longer around to record the news. Currently In Australia is East Timorese journalist and fixer Jose Belo. He works for a number of foreign agencies including SBS Dateline. We spoke with him earlier about press freedom in the world’s newest nation.
