The superannuation gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australia

Indigenous workers are retiring with less funds than non-Indigenous workers, new research from The Griffith Centre for Personal Finance and Superannuation has found. Under the current superannuation contribution rate, non-Indigenous Australians will need to work until age sixty-eight, but Indigenous Australians will only be able to retire once they are over seventy-one. The researchers have also discovered that gender barriers are a strong factor, as shown in findings such as how female Indigenous workers have a mean superannuation balance sixty-four per cent lower than non-Indigenous male workers.
