The “slug” moves downriver

When the drought broke authorities in New South Wales released water from the Menindee lakes to restore flow to the lower Darling, where farmers and irrigators had been getting quite desperate. Unfortunately that first water release was dirty and salty and has created all sorts of problems as it moves along the river. The first places to get the “slug” of water found it killed huge numbers of the endangered Murray Cod and now as the body of water nears the Murray locals in Wentworth are preparing to protect their crops.
