Treason has always seemed a mediaeval concept but it and its companion crime sedition are well and truly back in the language. A Wagga Wagga Art Gallery today had to field a complaint of treason for having on its walls digital images of the Prime Minister and Attorney General with their lips sewn up. Dr Ric Sarre says treason or sedition does need to be available to governments in these times to cover really dangerous acts but the public perception of the terms is very important in how such cases are treated by the system.
