Animal liberationists complain that farmers are not trying hard enough to find alternatives to the practice of mulesing. SA Democrat MLC Ian Gilfillan says thetre is a new method being developed which could be used now but is receiving no funding from the research arm of teh wool industry. Wool Innovators Animal Health and Welfare Unit Project Manager Dr Scott Williams didn’t want to comment on that particular emethod but said that farmers weren’t under pressure from the animal rights movement and had been trying to find alternatives for thirty years.
