Queensland’s new government promises to be tougher on coal seam gas companies. The new Environmental Minister Andrew Powell says the Bligh Labor government has grossly mismanaged the development of the industry in Queensland. But what exactly are the LNP doing differently? Coal Seam Gas is emerging as one of the most contentious environmental issues in Queensland. A recent leak from a well at a mining site near Chinchilla has sparked concerns about the environmental standards the mining companies operate under.

The new Liberal National government says it is committed to  maintaining  the right balance between the state’s economic growth and environmental protection. The Wire met with long time coal seam gas opponent and former environmental lawyer Greens Senator for Queensland Larrisa Waters to find out about coal seam gas mining in Queensland and what she thinks the LNP should and will do to manage it.
