The Federal Greens have been holding out on the federal government’s housing bill, demanding extra negotiations on things like negative gearing and capital gains tax, as well as rent freezes.

The party’s spokesperson for housing, Max Chandler-Mather, was recently in the Northern Rivers, targeting the marginal seat of Richmond with a special announcement for the Tweed Shire in the leadup to next year’s federal election: a new block of affordable housing flats on an old Telstra depot site.

Mr Chandler-Mather says the block would be built by a new public housing developer.
