A parliamentary inquiry is underway examining how to improve future elections with Labor and The Greens flagging Indigenous participation as an area where more work must be done.

But Greens Senator for Western Australia Rachel Siewert says the government’s refusal to enshrine a Voice to Parliament into the constitution could alienate further Indigenous people.

Minister for Indigenous Australians Ken Wyatt has kicked off a co-design process but the government says it will look to write any reform into law, rather than the nation’s founding document.
