The future of sex and reproduction
The future of sex and reproduction are set to move further apart as IVF technologies advance, according to the chemist father of the pill, Professor Carl dJERASSI . It’s been over 50 years since the pill’s development revolutionised women’s control over reproduction, but now the visiting emeritus professor says that the ability for women to freeze their eggs and extend their biologocial clock will further seperate the act of sex from reproduction. The potential to store ovum until a woman chooses to have a child is likely to bring about similar levels of reproductive liberation that the pill did, however with the advancing technology comes more ethical questions. Professor Carl Djerassi is an Emeritus Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University and also an author and playwright. He spoke to the Wire earlier today about how women will be able to use IVF technologies in future.
