The Democratic Decision that could free the Bali bombers

Indonesia’s Constitutional Court today voted in a five four decision that the anti-terrorism law on which the Bali bombers were convicted is unconstitutional. At the heart of the decsion is the principle of retrospectivity. Dr Scott Burchill from Deakin University says it’s a predictable decision from a country which wants to be seen to be as democratic as other Western countries and he doubts that in practice the current government would allow ot to lead to the release of the Bali bombers.
