Textile workers get a worse deal than blokes who make cars

It would be fair to say that there are around 1800 fairly depressed people facing the prospect of unemployment after Pacific Brands decision yesterday to take its manufacturing offshore. True the government says they did offer the industry assistance but nothing nearly as generous as what the automotive industry has been handed to keep jobs and manufacturing within Australia. Commentator Bernard Keane says although there have been reviews into the woes of both industry sectors, the government has shown little real interest in propping up the clothing sector.
