The government has announced further details of the controversial new plan to implement drug testing for welfare recipients.

Canterbury and Bankstown, in Sydney’s south-west, are to be the first areas to trial that new scheme that will test 5,000 people receiving Centerlink payments commencing January 2018.

Although the government are confident, heath care professionals and social services advocates have been critical of the program say that it will not help people get jobs or reduce drug use.
