A woman who has just completed her doctorate by studying the responses of Aboriginal women to cancer – says some Indigenous women see cancer as another form of colonisation. The University of Queensland’s Deborah Prior spent three months living in two remote Aboriginal communities for research. An academic who specialises in palliative care nursing, Dr Prior says she undertook the study to find out why some Aboriginal women seem hesitant to undertake cancer treatment and receive palliative care.
