Taiwanese students are protesting ‘China-centric’ changes to high-school curriculum guidelines, taking action against the ‘black box’, or non-transparent, policy-making processes, as part of the Black Umbrella Movement. The changes have also sparked concerns with organisations within Taiwan, with the Taiwan Solidarity Union reportedly urging teachers not to adopt new versions of textbooks because they aim to instil a China-centric mindset in young Taiwanese. Vivian Tang, a Taiwanese high school student, spoke to The Wire between classes.
