South Australia endured a power shock in July, where its reliance on renewable energy was pushed to the limit. As a result the wholesale price of electricity in the state skyrocketed to unprecedented levels.

Some blamed renewables, others the behaviour of gas companies. The Grattan Institute, in a report released today, condemned both assessments and stressed the need for a more concrete climate change policy in Australia.

In the wake of the possible closure of Australia’s oldest and dirtiest coal fired power plant Hazelwood, in Victoria, what effects will the inevitable transition to renewable energy have on Australians?
