As Mental Health Week continues, the Telethon Institute has released data on the mental health of Indigenous children in the Kalgoorlie area in south-east WA. With almost a quarter of Indigenous kids in the region at a high risk of developing a mental illness, the overall picture isn’t good. The data also reveals that nearly one third of kids in the region have lived in 5 or more homes since birth…a factor the Telethon Institute says affects emotional wellbeing. In explaining the results, the Telethon Institute’s Adele Cox says there’s a multitude of external factors affecting the mental health of the kids in the area.
