Study claims art can reduce re-offending among ex-prisoners

Art has traditionally been viewed as a good in itself – a benefit to the citizenry, something that should be supported to help create well-rounded individuals.

In recent times there has been a push against this view in governments, with artists having to prove the economic benefits of their practice.

But what if art could do a whole lot more?

A report by the UK’s Cultural Learning Alliance claims participation in the arts brings health and civic benefits, including a decrease in re-offending among ex-prisoners.
