Universities have been quick to respond to the government’s invitation to raise fees, but they may have a newly militant student body to contend with. In a flashback to the glory days of student politics, 120 students burst into the Flinders University senate meeting last night just as a motion ot raise fees by 25% was about to be passed. They demanded more consultation and economic modelling to justify the University hiking up their fees. Thirty-five students refused to leave and spent the night in the meeting room under the eyes of security guards. The Vice Chancellor met them this morning and an agreement was reached. Annie Hastwell spoke to the National Union of Students president Jodi Jansen after she emerged from the sit-in and asked her what’s been agreed upon.
