Democrats Senator Natasha Stott Despoja may be exiting politics at the next election, but she’s determined to give the major parties one last shake up before she goes. On Thursday, Senator Stott Despoja will introduce a Bill that would give Australian women access to 14 weeks paid maternity leave – funded by the Commonwealth. Australia is currently one of only two OECD countries without a national scheme, and Dr Sara Charlesworth from the Centre for Applied Social Research at RMIT University, says it’s about time we got one:
