The Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) has been pushing for industry to create a uniform national set of safety guidelines for stevedoring. The MUA has accused business lobby groups of stalling on the safety reforms which they argue are desperately needed, as warfies are 14 times more likely to die at work than the average Australian worker.

Business interests, such as Shipping Australia, say they are in favour of a national code of practice but are not happy with all elements of the existing draft.
