An innovative new local council project in Sydney has taken the lead in providing support for ex-offenders upon their release from jail. Marrickville Council and the Community Restorative Centre (or CRC) have joined forces in developing strategies to assist ex offenders re-integrate back into the community. Still in the planning stages, this project will provide a mentoring system where ex-offenders will be paired up with someone from the community who will help them access services and provide social and emotional support for that tough transition. Ariane Mintz spoke to Liz Collier, Strategic Community Projects Officer at Marrickville Council, and Alison Churchill, Executive Officer for the Community Restorative Centre – CRC.
