‘Sorry Day’ for SA victims of forced adoption policy

Today the South Australian Parliament held a special sitting to formally apologise to the families affected by forced adoption between 1930 and 1950. During that time, women who became pregnant out of wedlock were forcibly separated from their children as part of State policy.
The practice of forced adoption, however, goes well beyond that scope, affecting families right up until the late seventies. The gathered families filled every available room in parliament house with many watching on a video feed and many more via a live webcast to hear their apology.
