Slaughter in schools: Boko Haram’s campaign of violence in Nigeria

Nigeria has seen deadly attacks over the last few years from Boko Haram, mainly operating in the northern and eastern parts of Nigeria. This year has so far been especially brutal with more than a thousand deaths. After the attacks on boarding schools where students were killed in their sleep, the government has now shut down several schools. For many, this is interrupting an already fragile education path. Who are Boko Haram and what are some of the consequences of these attacks on Nigerian students?

Speaking to a resident from the eastern part of Nigeria, it is clear this is affecting students who are often in an already disadvantaged education position.
