A new CD was launched in Cairns today, but rather than music, it features an interactive program to help Indigenous board and committee members to make their voices heard. The CD aims to build on the literacy and numeracy skills of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people playing a governance role on committees and boards. Indigenous councils and committees are increasingly having to operate within a mainstream framework. Sue Muller, Director of “The Learning Workshop”, says the structural changes are putting pressure on Indigenous people to undertake formal training. Ms Muller says while the CD is not a replacement for formal training, it will bring Indigenous people up to speed with the language and numeracy skills required of board and committee members.
