A parliamentary committee has advised the Government to change the way the Australian Federal Police share information with countries that have the death penalty. The recommendations have come out of a report into a treaty between Australia and the United Arab Emrites, a federation that uses capitol punishment. But the advice has hit a sore spot for the federal police, who were strongly criticized for allowing the “Bali 9”- the Australian so-called “drug mules” – to be caught on Indonesian soil, several of whom currently face the death penalty. It comes at a time when the Indonesian Attorney General is pushing for executions to be brought forward.
