Liberal Democrat Senator David Leyonhjelm is pushing for a Liberal conscience vote on same sex marriage. His stance coincides with a recent poll which states support for marriage equality in Australia is at a record high of 72 per cent and a campaign by online campaign group Get Up. But Senator Leyonhjelm’s plans may come at the expense of a potential trade-off of asylum seeker rights.
