It’s not often that a tourist’s holiday in Australia prompts comment from some of the highest profile pollies in Canberra. But the case of Scott Parkin, the jailed American anti-war activist, has resulted in a big political reaction today. Parkin has been deemed a national security threat by the Department of Immigration. He has been detained and is expected to be deported within days. But Labor leader Kim Beazley says he wants to know more from the Federal Government, about Scott Parkin’s case. And Greens Leader Bob Brown says that the Bush administration ordered Scott Parkin’s deportation because he has campaigned strongly against defense company Halliburton which was formerly run by US vice President Dick Cheney. Charles McPhedran reports.
