Over the last week, the media has been saturated with warnings about the effects of climate change and the threatened extinction of thousands of species. The IUCN Conference, currently being held in Bangkok, has released a red list of endangered species and has announced that over fifteen thousand species face extinction. Yet, whilst the IUCN has listed the Southern Blue Fin Tuna as endangered, the Australian Government has not. Greenpeace has been consistent in raising awareness of the vulnerability of the Southern Blue Fin Tuna. While the Australian Government has put fishing quotas in place, Quentin Hanich of Greenpeace, says the current quotas are not enough to sustain the Blue Fin species.
